FMO is the Dutch development bank. Based in The Hague and operating worldwide, they offer their knowledge and capital to support companies and projects in developing countries. Our studio has works on their corporate communication for several years now.
Digital first report, story telling website, annual report, internal magazine.

Process
For several years now our studio has worked on the FMO corporate communication. Duel started out by extending FMO’s corporate identity with a large set of icons, and since then has worked on many publications, banners, factsheets, leaflets, PowerPoint presentations, websites, and sector and annual reports.
After two years of printed annual reports, FMO decided to switch to online first. Within the studio I was responsible for the design that would be implemented by F19, a software company specialised in online reporting. The challenge was to create a website that would be interesting for light, middle and heavy users.
We came up with the idea of a three-layered system, one to show the highlights, a second to show more detailed information, and a third to read all the texts and annual accounts. The website navigates vertically as well as horizontally, showing an animated introduction picture and running graphs.
For me personally it was a good first experience with Facetbase, the software system developed by F19, and see it's possibilities. I paid extra attention to the usability (UI) of the site and developed the templates that were used for the printed report. This PDF version was automatically created by the system and users have the option to create their own report by selecting articles of their choice. At the moment I am designing FMO’s Human Rights report that we built in the same system.

FMO asked our studio to redesign their internal magazine, the inFMO. I developed the new style, making the magazine more visually appealing, enriching their travel stories and new talent with lots of colour, introducing new typefaces and small illustrations. Each magazine is about 36 pages and we have about one week to do the design and corrections. I have made eight editions so far and did the art direction of two of them.
This project was done as part of my work at Studio Duel.
