To promote the special collection of the National Archive, our studio developed the NA Magazine, a digital-only magazine with five editions. With unique historic archive records and rare finds, the reader is taken on an expedition through the archive from behind their computer or tablet. There is also information about current exhibitions, events and other news items. With lots of photos and illustrations combined with short articles, this magazine is designed and optimised for online reading pleasure.

Process
Before designing the magazine, I tested what font size and amount of text would be ideal for tablet reading. Because the majority of the images are historical, I wanted to create a design that would give the magazine a more modern look and feel. The orange and blue came from their own corporate identity, which I used in combination with a bold typeface for the headings and quotes. The challenge was to design spreads that could also be viewed as separate pages when viewed in portrait mode. Other challenges were finding a good balance between the "text heavy" information and the images and working with a strict deadline of one week for the design of each edition.
I learned a lot in the field of editorial design that I would later use for other projects like the InFMO magazine and the Impact City bookazine.
