We live in a world where science plays a key role. New scientific developments have a direct impact on your life. That’s why ‘Scientific Literacy’ is important. The VSC (sector organisation of science museums & centres) came up with a Dutch translation and definition of scientific literacy, ‘Wetenschapswijsheid’.
Animation, storyboard, design board, illustrations, concept.

The storyboard of the animation.

Process
The animation starting point was an 'exploded view' concept. As part of the logo I wanted to create a world made with geometrical shapes in tints of blue and red that could form different illustrations. Working with scientific references like the Periodic table and Newton's cradle combined with smart transitions between the scenes makes the animation stand out. I worked together with The VideoMatic for the technical development. In addition to the animation, I made a handout and simple website.
This is one of my favourite 2D animation projects that I've done. It was a great opportunity to create a unique world where the different elements would all fit and to create the storyboard and transitions between the scenes. Due to budget restrictions we couldn't use a voice-over, which I believe would have made this animation even more professional. Nonetheless, it has been used by many different science institutions across the Netherlands.
